After a rainy winter, the hills are green now. Another walk in the woods truly reminds me of one of Mary Oliver’s poems.
It’s a bliss to see trees turning green again, new leaves emerging, and buds smiling in the sun. Trees are true retreats. If you know how to speak to them, how to listen to them, you can learn many truths of life. They do not preach bigger philosophies, they preach the ancient laws of life, about simplicity, about purpose, about fulfillment.
When I am among the trees,
especially the willows and the honey locust,
equally the beech, the oaks and the pines,
they give off such hints of gladness.
I would almost say that they save me, and daily.I am so distant from the hope of myself,
in which I have goodness, and discernment,
and never hurry through the world
but walk slowly, and bow often.Around me the trees stir in their leaves
and call out, “Stay awhile.”
The light flows from their branches. And they call again, “It’s simple,” they say,
“and you too have come
into the world to do this, to go easy, to be filled
with light, and to shine.” – Mary Oliver

Love Mary Oliverβ¦ your photos are wonderful. π
Muir Woods is so calm and silent. Loved a hike there some years ago. The redwoods are magical, and so are Mary Oliver’s words! I so agree, Kristine. Thank you π
I love this time when everything turns green again. π Thank you, Claudia. Good luck with your photography too.
nice π
Your pictures are marvelous! I love unusual views of what we see every day. I have been trying new angles for the past year now, and am really having fun with it.
I felt the magic Mary speaks of when I hiked Muir Woods in California years ago. No way you can be among those ancient redwoods and not feel the magic.
Thank you so much, Alok. This is a green world once again, and I love walking/hiking in the woods for hours, plus I love poetry a lot! π You too have a great weekend!
How did you think about all this? Just beautiful as are the pictures!
