I am not fond of California summer. Staying indoor, drinking ice cold juices, reading thrillers, gardening- they are my most favorite summer weekend activities. I know everyone else just loved roaming in the sun like a free new born butterfly. I was not one of them this summer. So when September knocked on the door, the first thing I did was making lists: travel plans, and list of things I want to photograph.
This summer I finished reading “Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail” by Cheryl Strayed ( along with other fifty books, but I don’t know when I’ll write about them.) I have watched so many documentaries about Pacific Crest Trail that I can blindly make a hiking plan now. Though it’s not that easy. But someday I will surely walk on that trail and photograph the moods of Kern river.
Photographing small towns of California made me fall in love with nature. Every year when my close friends traveled far, the husband and I visited small towns, the peaceful ones that slept at 8 and woke up much after the sunrise, and the ones that proudly offered me an easy break from my tough routines. Some of those towns are just around a bay, a shore, or a hill. They are sleepy when travelers are not around. Some towns are too proud of their little history, landmarks and amazing breakfast joints. Rediscovering them through the lens is one of my favorite hobbies.
September is the time when I break my cocoon, wear sunglasses to fight the sunlight, and sleep in another small town after watching another beautiful sunset. I guess, right now I am pretty excited about the rest of the four months of the year.
** How are you welcoming September? Are you sad that summer is over? I am not. This was the hardest summer of my life and I survived.
Especially today–over 100 in the valley 😦
Im in northern California too. I always loved September, but this year it still feels like mid July. 🙂
I love the Fall, but in Northern Cal it can still be rather warm, although today was in the mid-80s. It truly felt like an October day. Where in Cal are you?
Yes. Pretty similar here too. It was so bad that I don’t want to look back. Hope to end the year with a smile at least. Thank you, Sheena. 🙂
This was a difficult summer overall; nobody died and no major direct upheaval, just a lot of things happening around us that are wearing us down.
Pretty soon fall will emerge, that’s my silver-lining. I hope you get some rain this week, Debbie. Thank you for reading. 🙂
Hoping for some rain and cooler temperatures here in VA. We’re burning up. I love fall, but can’t get in the mood in this heat!
Thank you, Claudia. Yes, I agree. I love observing that silent color change and of course cooler weather.
So true. I’m done too. Yes, hopefully fall season will be better. Thank you for reading, Patrick. 🙂
That makes me dance a little, Shailaja. Thanks for the motivation. 🙂
I’ll just enjoy September vicariously through you. You infuse such life into it
Hopefully September brings cooler temperatures. I’m done with this year’s scorching weather. I hope this fall brings you relief from difficult days.
I enjoy summer, but I really love Fall. Hot flashes aside, I love cool, crisp mornings and evenings, orange and yellow trees, walking through the woods and finding the Goddess all over again. And I’m happy to be following you and your journey.
