5 Day Black & White Challenge: Day 4

Black & White Photography day4

The Croods is one of my most favorite films, it is set in the prehistoric era where a man’s position is threatened by the invention of fire. I have noted down several thought-provoking lines from the movie, especially the father-daughter interactions between the protagonist Eep the cave girl and her father Grug, about change, worries, and fear of change.

The funniest story Grug tells his family is – “Tonight, we’ll hear the story of Crispy Bear. A long time ago, this little bear was alive. She was alive, because she listened to her father, so she was happy. But Crispy had one terrible problem, she was filled with… curiosity! Yes! And one day, she saw something new and died!” Each time this part brings a smile on my face.

I know how people are afraid of change and trying new ideas, how we all want to freeze our present so that everything stays the same.  But it’s one irrational fear. No generation can progress without accepting changes. Today’s story will be history one day; our work is just to write a good one.

Last year on one summer afternoon, I captured California’s popular ghost town Bodie in some eerie photographs. I was very curious about decaying ghost towns, and the history behind their rise and fall. This photograph of some abandoned artifacts was taken during the town walk. I wanted to capture the beauty of decay and how it actually flattered visual artists by its motionless immortality.

I am taking part in this 5 day Black & White Challenge.  Rules are simple, and you are invited to participate with us.
