Milestones in the Journey!

Did I ever mention in my blog that I am pretty  good at fixing a goal and dedicating my life to it? I think, I did, in the comment section of one post I wrote last week. I even confessed that I am not good with achievements ; I mean, when I achieve the goal, I throw it to the recycle bin and fix another goal ! It’s not a good habit! I understood. I started working on it.

It’s not good because , the path to any achievement is filled with struggles , hard work. And when we look back , we find only the struggle part and see no joy in the journey ! So, celebrating /accepting the achievement is one important part ! I am a goal driven person. I love measuring my journey with the number of milestones I covered. Since life does not stop after a milestone , I always focus on the next turn , maybe!

I was waiting for a career related thing for a while ;  it was the only goal I had in my mind , until this week. Stress , waiting , uncertainty , hard work , preparation, planning -there are many ingredients in the recipe of this success ! 😉 I got what I was waiting for. Finally.

I took four days to digest the fact – that it happened . And this time , I enjoyed the moment with family ,with pizzas and many fried snacks ! A diet-free celebration. I did not try to be too humble and express like earlier times ” It’s nothing. I have long way to go.”

I also did not think if I have to work more , how I will manage time , how I will write blogs , what I should start reading now, what my next goal should be ,etc in last 4 days. I will. Maybe, from this weekend.

Since  I talk nostalgia , stress , gender equality , stories from my journey , food , exercise – almost everything on this blog , I thought of sharing this happiness too here, with my readers [ I hate the word “followers”. Reader is good and it makes us equal.] who inspire everyday! Thanks for being there. 🙂

** How do you celebrate your achievements?

Do you feel happy instantly?

Do you take some time to make your mind still to feel the happiness?  Do you cry when you are extremely happy ?

Do you feel guilty if you have less time to write ? 🙂 😀.. I would like to know!

  1. Not at all. 🙂 I understand the reader part. There’s so many things to read. I always envied the librarians and book shop owners. :D..

  2. I have tried that dear but as soon as I take pen and paper my mind becomes blank. Basically I’m a reader. I hope I’m not disturbing you.

  3. Yes. I read your work in hindi . They are wonderful, Indira.Write for yourself, Indira. May I suggest something?- You can fill up your diaries , first. And then, when you have time, please type for the blog. In that way, ideas won’t be lost. Later, you can even translate them. Your thoughts are so beautiful. You keep writing. 🙂

  4. Thanks Archita. You and Soma are so encouraging. Actually I should write in Hindi but Hindi typing is very difficult and no one reads my Hindi blog.

  5. I am having that issue, this days. I wrote about it on “Conversations” post.:( I think it’s writer’s block, maybe. 🙂 But, you will write soon:)

  6. You can. Everyday, you are doing. Writers are never satisfied with their own writings. 🙂 I love your poems , stories and everything you post on the blog. 🙂 Thank you, Indira.:)

  7. That’s my goal too – Happiness- main goal and the toughest one. 🙂 Thank you so much , Sonel, for the visit and your comment. Means a lot.:) *Hugs*

  8. Congrats Archita and don’t be too hard on yourself. You have a lovely blog and I just love that shot! It’s gorgeous!
The only goal I have is to be happy, to stay happy and make others happy. 😀

  9. Ya , girls laugh too frequently , it seems. No, I was not grown up that time, so I really thought of * not laughing anymore*…Ha ha ha..

Ya, I was so busy for 5 days .:(
Btw, I was thinking of writing to you. I think I will do that pretty soon .:)

  10. I missed you too! I noticed you hadn’t posted as you usually do so I checked your blog in case it just wasn’t showing on my reader and saw your count down saying when you’d be back. That’s really a cool idea!

What does “you laugh like a girl” even mean? LOL Laugh as you laugh, don’t change that.

Double high five! I don’t cry when I’m sad either, or I rarely cry when I’m sad. I just don’t like crying lol

  11. I know..I am having less and less time everyday and I am scared that again there will be a time when I will stop writing.
Your should not cry , Arch, during happiness or sadness. You are that precious.:) Thank you for wishes and the words your shared.:)

  12. Congratulations!!! 🙂
    To answer your questions –
    – I generally celebrate any achievement by sharing it with my dear ones and feeling a sense of happiness in seeing them happy, making them proud.
    – Actually, I am always in self-doubt, so I don’t get happy instantly. I am more cautious and wanna confirm the result.
    – No, I rarely cry when I am happy.
-I generally have the time to write, but put it off, thinking the thoughts are not worth putting down in writing. 😛

  13. Haha… Lets put it this way. We all have a child within us, and while mine spends time in movies and playground – yours sits in classroom 🙂

You heard of “maggu” in your college days? 🙂

  14. That’s really great. Self-dates..I do that when I am down or have things to think about..:D..Academic achievements count a lot if you are never much grown up ; fo example, for people like me 🙂 Thank you for stopping by 🙂

  15. That’s too good , Vishal. And thank you for your comment. 🙂 We should be proud of ourselves. I was at a competition , last year, ok. Participants were too busy at self-promoting; while I was silent for a day even though my submission was really great. I was trying to stay calm and humble as that’s what life lessons are taught in India. 🙂 Within a day , I understood that to win I have to promote my submission as well. Finally, my presentation was the third best, out of 40 k presentations..:) Moral of the story : Sometimes, to bring our confidence back , little bit of self help helps. 😀

  16. Hi C.K , I really missed you. 🙂 Thank you for your wishes. Made me so happy.:)

You are so right. I giggle too much and once someone said “You laugh like a girl” ; so I tried hard to change my laughter ..LOL..:D I always focus on criticism and failure and avoid accepting success. 🙂 I am changing. And after reading your comment, I felt how important it is to look at the happy side of the life. 🙂

Thank you. 🙂 And Yay, a high five , I cry when I get mad ; I even do not cry when I am sad. 🙂 LOL.

    Take care. 🙂

  17. I have a tendency to look at achievements with pride. It’s not necessarily a good way as we tend to hark to past glory and prevent self-growth in a way. Your posts are as usual totally awesome…and in another way, it’s good to look at our achievements for self confidence and happiness:) Remembering the Good Times.

  18. Congratulations 🙂

I usually take myself out on…self-dates of sort. Movie, roaming around Delhi and things like that 🙂 And of course, I write about- on blog. The thing is, there hasn’t been anything I can call an achievement as such. I mean nothing great. Sure there have been little boosters on the way, but certainly not the ones that get you high. Academic achievements do not count much when you grow up right?

  19. Congratulations, Archita! I wish you tons more success to follow this!

In answer to your question(s); I always celebrate each success as it occurs no matter how small. Even failures don’t get me down much or for long, failure teaches something so at least there’s something to learn from it happening. As to happiness, even on my darkest days I have a little happiness inside. There’s always something to be happy about no matter what else is going on in life or the world. 🙂

I don’t remember if I’ve ever cried when I’m extremely happy! Thinking of my happiest memories and no, I don’t, I laugh and smile. I cry when I am angry though, the madder I get the more I cry lol I try not to get angry very much 😉

  20. Archita – Congrats..and wishing you all the very best and great success ahead!!!…..Happy Weekend..:):):)

  21. Thank you very much, Cynthia. 🙂 Wow. These are great tips for my writing. I mostly write two , three things ,save them in drafts and post later. That’s why I do not write about current affairs. . Bad! :)..
And , work, theater and writing – Wow! You manage to do so many things. I have to learn a lot . 🙂 Thank you .:)

  22. So true..many more to come. I found my next goal in your comment. 😀 Ha ha.
Thank you Harsha for the readership ,wishes and the cheering. Now I have to watch “Kal Ho Na Ho” for the nth time and praise SRK 😀 😛

  23. Pauline, I know you were a life coach. I remember reading that beautiful post where you mentioned it. That must have been one wonderful experience, right? I try my best to inspire the younger ones in the family and friend-circle by sharing from my journey and knowledge from books.:) I learn more everyday.:)

Thank you. Yes, I am pretty happy. Thank you so much for your inspiring words. 🙂 I am not good with success ; I focus on failures and criticism more , even though they are the smallest part of my life.:)

  24. Congrats for your Achievements and Many More to Come…
For me Achievements are Benchmark we set and they keep going from one to the other…So I celebrate I what achieve at the very moment..Now Who Knows “Kal Ho naa Ho”.. 🙂

  25. Patrick ,

Your blog is doing wonderful. And I still remember some of your great posts – philosophy and your journey. They were so wonderful and my favorite.

I think, I understand your point . I think we are perfectionists ; we want to give our best , we want to be the best in everything we do. There lies the problem.:) We become our worst critics as we learn from the tiniest mistakes we make. While self-critics are better than the self-obsessed or selfish people; but criticism brings negativity. :)..we feel tired, uninspired.:)

I wish you all the best ; happiness, success. You deserve all of them. And, don’t forget that I once told you to get your writings published. 😀 They are so good. 🙂

Thank you for sharing a part of your journey. Happy Weekend. 🙂

  26. In my other life, as a life guide [coach] my work focuses on helping people remember that their primary state of being is one of joy ….. life changes that for everyone. The influences/expectations of family, culture, media take up residence in our heads and negativity becomes the norm. Learning to take time to appreciate what is going well is the first step in returning to that primal state of joy. Yay for you!! 🙂

  27. Congratulations!

My writing has to fit my life, which means I write around work and doing theatre. Movie shoots are easier – there’s a lot of down time. I’ve learned to write in snippets (between 3 and 6 a.m., at lunch, backstage during intermission). I have a quota and a chart, so if I get behind (which happens frequently) I know exactly where I stand and I always keep 2 days a week mostly free so I can play catch up if I need to (I prefer to write for a few hours at a time, I just don’t always get to).

  28. Archita,

I think it is human nature to focus on the failures in the process of reaching a goal. Where I work, one can meet 9 out of 10 goals but the one failure will be the thing they focus on the most. This can be very frustrating when the one is but a small part of the larger and more complex 9. I’m my own worst critic when it comes to not meeting expectations, mine or others, but I am learning to let go of the negative feelings and celebrate the positive ones (hence my posts on Choosing to be Happy).

With everything that has been going on recently, the only way I can feel happiness is to put my mind in neutral (keep in mind I’m a gearhead…pun not intended) and focus on the positive which in turn makes me happy. I’m not afraid to admit that when I’m overwhelmed with joy I will tear up.

Taking time to write on my blog has become an opportunity to tackle the confused web of problems in my mind and work through them by putting them into words. I make the time because it brings happiness into my life especially when my writhing is well received and others add to the conversation. Thanks for starting this conversation.

Have a great weekend and don’t miss the chance for a free Starbucks card at my blog.
